My first hub would not stay connected to my 2015 27" 5K iMac even after much fussing with different cables, so I returned it and was promply refunded. Weeks later, a very nice representative from Orico contacted me via email and wanted to send me a replacement hub for no charge. I figured I had nothing to lose so I agreed. I've been using the new hub for about a week and so far back-up drives and peripherals are staying connected as they should. I haven't yet tried to charge an iPad on the charging ports, so I can't speak to its functionality as a higher amp charging unit. It's a nicely built hub and now that it works I think it's a great little device. I think the only improvements I'd like to see would be a 90 degree cable for the AC plug and possibly a rear input for the USB cable to the computer. With both of these plugged in, the unit is quite wide and not a stealthy as it could be. I can't say enough about how the company took the time to reach out to me to make sure I was satisfied, even at their own expense.
"Solid and well built, but I am having stability issues with device connection. External hard drives often drop out and often my remote DVD player has to be unplugged and reconnected. I'll give it another week before considering a return."
I have purchase this 10 port hub in both the Aukey and Orico version
Since the Orico was much cheaper, I wanted to see what differences there are.
here are some of the things I noticed that are different between the two.
1. Both unit are Aluminum casing. But the Orico version, both side with the AC power plug, and the USB cable side caps, are NOT aluminum. they are plastic. Aukey version, EVERYTHING was Aluminum.
2. AC adaptors color, Aukey AC adaptor and USB cable are both white, but the Orico version, USB cable is white, and AC adaptor is black.
3. AC power rating. Aukey version is 12V -- 4A, but the Orico version 12V -- 3A.
4. Built quality, both are very very close. I would say Aukey is about 95%, and the Orico version is 90%. not a huge difference.
conclusion, I think both USB hub are good quality. but if you do have to put them side by side to compare, I have to say Aukey is a little better.
Both speed performance are pretty much the same. but the only concern I have is the AC adaptor on the Orico version, is only 3A. Not sure if that would be sufficiant, if you do plug all 10 devices. if you never use all 10 port, then you should be good.
Personally, I think both are as good. if you like to save some money, go with the Orico, if you are picky about the built quality, go with the Aukey.
