Just received the cable today. I'm using it with a JVC FX-850. It fits great and clicks nicely when plugged in. The cable is braided and therefore thicker than the original. It also has more memory than the original. I'd say the original is better as far as form is concerned. Also, it appears tough but cannot comment on longevity at this point. I also believe it's more microphonic than the original cable, but so far not too distracting. Will be able to better tell when I've used it while running. If I'm not mistaken this cable also colors the sound a bit differently from the original cable, but I can't decide if it's better or worse as the original cable is no longer functioning.
A real pleasant surprise for me is the mic. I recorded my voice with the mic on this cable, and the mic on another well built earphone, the Martin Logan Mikros 70. The mic that is part of this cable produced full, rich, loud sound. Reminds me of recordings made using a full size desktop mic. The original cable of course didn't come with a mic, which was annoying to have to switch to another headphone for phone calls.
Recommended.
I'm not giving this cable 5 stars necessarily for its sound quality. But I am giving it 5 stars for its sound quality, build quality relative to its price, and features. That is, it is the only off-the-shelf after market cable featuring MMCX connectors AND an android mic with this kind of sound and build quality for a reasonable price, available at this moment in time. I'm using it with my Westone W60 IEMs, most of the time out of a Ray Samuels portable DAC/amp from the USB out of a Samsung Note 2. If a call comes in, I quickly unplug from the DAC/amp and plug directly into the phone for using my IEMs as a phone headset. And the sound and build quality is WAY ahead of the cable offered for this purpose by Westone or Shure that has MMCX connectors and an android mic. So if you want a decent cable with these features, and are looking for something better than the stock Westone or Shure android mic without paying $200 to $500 and up for a custom built this cable is GREAT and totally worth its price.
